Dann Glenn Signature Bass

The HotWire Dann Glenn Signature Fretless Four “Extreme.”

This is the new Dann Glenn signature bass from Hotwire! DG is now playing the HWDG Extreme exclusively. This bass is the pinnacle fretless. The body is a very light and rare single piece of swamp ash. The neck is German flamed maple, with a Macassar ebony fingerboard, lightly coated with boat lacquer.

One hand-wound Hot Wire Jazz pickup does the trick, along with tone and volume controls, all passive. Top it off with a Badass II bridge, and you’ve got the finest bass DG has ever played.

Still available: the HWDG 4!

This is the first four string fretless bass we designed to the specs of fretless virtuoso Dann Glenn in 2001. We are very proud to have Dann on the Hot Wire Bass wagon.

Dann Glenn about his HWDG Bass which he calls his "Venus":

This bass just KILLS with low end. The lows/mids/highs are reminiscent of an old late 50's early 60's Fender Jazz I once played for about 30 minutes never forgetting the experience. Now I have my own.
I am AMAZED how light this bass is. The lightest I ever played, yet sounds HUGE.

I had the pleasure and privilege of playing Jaco's infamous Jazz bass when he stayed with me on occasion when I lived in North Hollywood years ago. This bass is the first bass I've ever played that actually resembles his bass's tone and signal shape. This is very eerie and interesting. This bass makes a deep yet clear sound. It is extremely warm in terms of tone.

After spending many hours playing Venus in, I have become almost alarmed at how closely this bass behaves and SOUNDS like Jaco's. Yes, I know Jaco's sound came from his hands, as does mine. But I am speaking of the sound of the BASS itself....

HWDG Signature Fivestring

This is the head of the first HWDG Fivestring, built for Jon Pomplin!
American rock bass sensation Jon Pomplin already owned a four string fretless HWDG signature, but was interested in a five string fretted. Well...here it is in all its splendor aptly named "Aurora" by Jon himself. Jon was very concerned about asking for a DG signature with frets on it. Jon has studied with DG on fretless but also needed a five string fretted to augment his needs with his next CD and tour for Project 814.

... and listen to Willi Langer playing this bass!

DANN GLENN BIO

Dann Glenn is known primarily for his blazing chops and obtuse use of time and space as a composer.
During his formative years he was most fortunate to have as his mentor, bass pioneer Monk Montgomery. Monk (Wes' brother) was the first bass player to record a jazz session on electric (then known as 'Fender bass') with Lionel Hampton.

After bailing on LA, Dann moved into seclusion, becoming known in the press as "The Mad Professor of Bass", spending all of his time in the studio. This has yielded 10 solo CD's, two of which are full neo classical symphonies. His latest CD "Subharmonia" has turned heads as Dann has played all parts via MIDI and organic bass, culminating in music that sounds like it's from other worlds.

Highlights are his "Opus for Three Basses" and "The Old Harbor at Honfleur", where Dann's dazzling solos over obscure chord changes boggle the listeners mind. Occasionally confrontational and always controversial, DG's fiery temperament has been compared to that of the late great Charles Mingus.

Dann's new signature fretless Jazz Bass has just been unveiled by HotWire Basses of Germany.
DG states, "I feel like I've come full circle now that I'm back to playing my own Jazz Bass!" "It's good to be home."
